During my life, the Lord has blessed me with a love of sports. Playing baseball has been a part of my life since the time I was a child. My parents took me to practices; they practiced with me in the backyard. They went to my games, and they were always a great source of encouragement to me. Not only in athletics, but in the other areas of my life as well. As I am now a parent myself, I have been involved in countless sporting events. I have played, coached, and officiated games. Over the years, I have witnessed many incidents where parents have become so involved in the winning of games and the performance of their children that they lose sight of the joy of the game. Playing baseball is, and always should be, a joyful experience. Children need to know they are loved for who they are, not how well they perform, and that as parents, we are proud of our children whether they win or lose. As Christians, we have an opportunity by participating in sports to live out our faith through a godly example of love and respect for one another. It is my prayer for parents that they will always remember that the most important words our children will ever hear us say is that we love them and that we are proud of them. I hope that as you and your children read this story together, you will grow closer through your shared relationship with each other and that together you will come to understand the grace and unconditional love offered to us all by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May God bless you and your children with a love of sports and one another.
